I recently bought the sweetest little book by Aneela Hoey called Little Stitches. It had lots of little embroidery designs and projects that really called out to me. And, even better I had a layer cake and a few yards of sherbet pips stashed away that I new I could use to co-ordinate in the future.
When my friend from work was diagnosed with breast cancer late this year, this fabric was the first thing that popped into my head. Red is definitely her colour and with all those cute little puppies, I knew this was just what was needed. I set to work and embroidered the matching scoot stitchery onto a plain white square along with an extra little pup. I sewed the layer cake into half square triangles, laid out into pinwheels and then sewed into the lap quilt. I even quilted and did the binding all by myself! Just don't look too close...

Wow I am impressed. You are very clever. Your friend must be very pleased. I like the pieced back also as it uses up the stash. Love from mum.
