Tail Feathers Journey :: Block 1

If you are playing along at home, Block 1 of Tail Feathers should be almost complete! Once you have strip pieced the 1 inch blocks, you will have saved some time for the next few blocks. I really enjoyed stitching up the tree of delight and those love birds stitcheries, finding I couldn't put down the needle once I picked it up.

I have never done that particular style of border shown above before. I suppose you would call it a continuous border? I thought it would be difficult, but once I got the idea, it wasn't too bad.

How did you go with block 1?

{made} birds of a feather quilt

I made this quilt top a while back, out of a magazine. I appliqu├ęd each of the birds by hand, using up scraps and fat quarters. I used a blanket stitch to secure them. It was a really quick and easy quilt to make. My very kind and beautiful mum kindly quilted it for me (hi mum!). Then she made me put a label on it too. Mums are good for things like that. Anyway, I gave the quilt to a good friend (of over 10 years!) who is expecting her first baby boy this year. I hope he loves the quilt as much as I loved making it.

Some days are just crap.

And today is one of those days.

After a poor nights sleep with an extra guest in the bed, i was running late for work and realised I didn't have enough change for parking. So scrabbling around for 10 minutes I found enough to get by.

One round trip around Canberra to get my daughter off to day care and myself to work later, I put all my change in the machine. 20 cents short. Aargh! Back to the car and checking under floor mats and dark, crummy places I found enough to pay my parking along with 8 sultanas and a button. Phew.

Only when I sit down to log into the computer at my desk I find that I left my lunch in the car. Never mind I tell myself, I will check emails and head back. An hour in the car won't hurt.

After being nominated to do the coffee run, I do another round trip back by the car to rescue my lunch. When I reach my car I find my keys are back at my desk.

I think I will drink my morning coffee before I head back.

Some days are just crap. This is one of them.

On my kindle: The Tomorrow series

If you follow me on twitter, you might know I have a new job. Which is really great, but it does mean I had to leave my friends at my old job, which sucks :( anyway, when I left my friends bought me a kindle to say au revoir. And I totally love it! I have been 'head stuckus in kindlus' ever since (old family joke, thanks dad...).

I have been re-reading the Tomorrow series by John Marsden. I read them when I was a teenager, and let me tell you they are still just as good. Action, romance, strong females and Australian. All good things if you ask me.

What have you been reading lately?
