{made} scoot quilt

I recently bought the sweetest little book by Aneela Hoey called Little Stitches. It had lots of little embroidery designs and projects that really called out to me. And, even better I had a layer cake and a few yards of sherbet pips stashed away that I new I could use to co-ordinate in the future.
{ little stitches by Aneela Hoey - notice my next project sticking its little head out? }

When my friend from work was diagnosed with breast cancer late this year, this fabric was the first thing that popped into my head. Red is definitely her colour and with all those cute little puppies, I knew this was just what was needed. I set to work and embroidered the matching scoot stitchery onto a plain white square along with an extra little pup. I sewed the layer cake into half square triangles, laid out into pinwheels and then sewed into the lap quilt. I even quilted and did the binding all by myself! Just don't look too close...

{ the finished quilt, embroidered, pieced and quilted by me! }

My friend loved the quilt and cried happy tears when I gave it to her. I am just glad she has something personal to take with her when she has treatments. I am really pleased with the finished quilt, but even happier that she loves it.

I'm still standing!

Hello, I feel bad for neglecting you. Life has been busy. Between weddings, renovating and life in general, I have been trying to clean out the spare {sewing} room. Somewhere along the line, my dirty little craft habit has got out of control. In order to get the room ready for the baby, I have to ship out the room. Into two shelves in the linen cupboard. It is turning into mission impossible! Meanwhile, I have been very finishing off a few projects that have been lingering...

Meanwhile, I am feeling super inspired for a few new projects too. Does this happen to you? Pouring over all the fabrics, books and patterns only makes me want to sew more! It's a never ending process...!

Tell me, have you ever had to down size your craft stash? How did you do it? And were you glad you did it in the end?

Free pattern: love birds embroidery

I made this sweet little stitchery up this year and thought I would offer it to you as my very first free pattern. During some down time at my day job, I sketched these little fellas up and knew I had to stitch them up. It's a really quick one with two different stitches - a back stitch and a single lazy daisy petal. If you don't know how to do a lazy daisy stitch, have a quick search - it's easy as! When you finish, pop it in a hoop and hang it somewhere nice.

I really hope you like my little love birds!

Tail Feathers Journey :: Block 5

Block 5 is finished! That took too long. My goal is to finish the top before the end of the year and I am recommitting to that... and a few other goals too! I have kicked a few off the list and that feels great so I should really do some more of that I think. Nothing like crossing things off the to do list!

This block was actually a pretty quick one - only one stitchery with applique. I am really loving the way it is turning out.

How are your blocks coming along? Are you still enjoying them?

craft tutorial round up :: washi tape

Well hi there! Has anybody else noticed the rise in the washi tape? It is oh so cute. And you can use it for just about anything! I remember making a craft project back in the day with washi paper. You would rip it all up into little pieces, and then glue it onto a plaster moulded figurine. I think it was a cat... Maybe mum still has it somewhere at home. Does anyone else remember those?

Anyway, we've come a long way baby... I have rounded up some really sweet washi tape decoration tutorials. I hope you enjoy!

one. bunting ceramic jug by how about orange

two. striped lamp shade by it all started with paint

three. glass vases by to be charmed

four. paper clip flags by tambouille

five. make your own washi tape with ginger and george

inspiration :: xray embroidery art

Happy Wednesday to you. I came across this art work a while back by Matthew Cox. I was looking for an idea of what to do with all the old X-ray films hanging around the house. Matthew Cox sure has put his to good use! They look really amazing and I can't help but wonder where he got this idea from!
I  never did find a way to upcycle my X-rays...

{made} sweet peas quilt

I have finally finished my sweet peas quilt by Cinderberry Stitches. I actually can't remember when I started it! It has been a work in progress for so very long. I really loved stitching up all those sweet little creatures and the alphabet. A BIG THANKS goes to my mum for quilting it so beautifully.  I have decided to give this to good friend - she is expecting her first baby this month. I hope she likes it!

If you like this quilt too, I have some patterns available in the shop.
