{made} childhood quilt

Hi there! Have a few minutes spare so thought a quickie was in order :)

I have been meaning to show off this quilt I made for my niece a while back (she is two and a half now!). I got the free pattern from a website which isn't around any more, so unfortunately I can't share the link with you (email me though and I can email you the pdf if you really like it...). It was really easy to make and all with machine stitching. A raw edge applique and double machine running stitch for the line drawings. You could easily change the background colour to suit gender or even a neutral tone too.

Close up of my favourite block

It was a new technique for me and I enjoyed the change. What techniques have you tried lately?

Inspiration: high tea

Hi kids! I am hosting my very own high tea for habitat at work this week. If you are a regular reader of my little blog, you would know that last year I went to Cambodia to help under privileged families build a house and a community. It was a really rewarding experience and I want to continue to contribute to Habitat for Humanity. Searching for some inspiration, I found some amazing images to aspire to! Wish me luck!

VERY IMPORTANT: Gevi the wombat book - help raise money for a friend

Hey guys,
I have a public service announcement. My good friend Gervais has been diagnosed with a serious and rare cancer. I am totally devastated for him and his family. To me, they are part of my family and I don't know how he has the strength to fight every day. What a man.
{This is his beautiful family. I love them so much.}

One of his very clever friends has made a book to help raise funds to help him and his family through this really tough time. The website explains:

Gevi the wombat was inspired by Gervais Serret and the experience of his battle with cancer. Gervais was diagnosed with stage three Adrenocortical cancer in April 2011. More information about this rare & aggressive cancer can be found on
Having to think outside the box in order to raise substantial funds for Gervais’ treatment, a dedicated group of friends and colleagues have volunteered their time & talent to create this children’s book.
Considering the urgency of the cause, is a call to action while the printed version of the book is being finalised. The book is due to be published in November 2011.
Please, check it out and if you can make a donation. Also, I know he will appreciate you letting your own family and friends know about the book. Thanks so much :)

You gotta see the baby shower!

I mentioned last week about the presents I made for my bestie's baby, and now I am sharing the baby shower! It was a crafternoon! Yay! My favourite type of afternoons! We set up a craft table with some material, transfers, threads, fabric markers and so on. I made a few prototypes to decorate and give the party goers a few ideas as well.

It was actually a really fun afternoon with friends to celebrate the addition to the gang. I wish there was more time in the week to have more fun like this...

Her dirty little secret

Busted! I snapped this photo of Chloe sleeping. Sucking her thumb. tut tut tut. Chloe only started sucking her thumb a few months back after seeing someone at day care doing it. Now she can't stop - it's comfy she tells me! At first we thought it was cute, but now, it's becoming a little bit of a problem. She is getting calluses on her thumbs and they are getting cracked and nasty. We have tried a few things to help her stop and they are working during the day, but she is still doing it in her sleep. What have you tried that works? How do you stop a thumb sucker sucking their thumb? Say that 3 times fast!

{made} cute animal stitcheries

I made these really cute stitcheries for my bestest friend from primary school. I made these for her new baby, Sofia Eden. They are so cute I almost didn't want to give them away! But I did...

If you want to make your own, they are by penguin and fish and you can get some here at the shop .

It's been a while...

I haven't been blogging lately. I just can't find the inspiration to do it. But, I really want to get back into the swing of writing. There have been a few things going on lately a whole lot of nothing and something :)

One thing that we really enjoyed recently was having my dad over for fathers day. We had a great barbie with the family who were around that day and shared a few sausages and drinks. Dad hung for a few days and spoilt Chloe with plenty of reading. I think he knows Giraffes Can't Dance off by heart! Thanks for coming over and spending time with us Dad!

Show & Tell :: Nancy's Wedding Quilt

I have been offline for a bit, after a busy few weeks. Chloe had an ear infection in both ears and my mum came to visit and so on and so on... However, I do have something for show and tell!

Nancy sent me some photos of her beautiful quilt that she made for her nephew and his wife. They were married last September and it was a work in progress for some time! I think you will agree with me that it was worth it.

The book the pattern came from Strips and Scraps by Suzanne McNeill. With a few exceptions, Nancy made the whole thing from a jelly roll. Can you believe that?

Not only is it a wonderful quilt, a lot of love has gone into each square. They all have a special meaning, a heart for each of them - his wife had a son from a previous marriage; three houses - the two they came from and the one they share now; their dog; a tree for each season and a bluebird for their wedding theme.

I am certain that they will really love their quilt. I think it's beautiful, what do you think?

Show & Tell :: Tail Feathers

Miriam has been making great progress on the Tail Feathers block of the month quilt. It is a huge quilt with heaps of stitcheries, applique and tiny piecing. I am so impressed that with the detail and all those squares match pretty well to me - my piecing is always dodgy... I don't know where she find the time to do so many projects and actually finish them as well! Check out the yellow roses blog  to see some more of her lovely sewing and craft projects. Thank you so much for sharing Miriam, I can't wait to see the finished quilt and those log cabin borders - good luck with them! ;)

If you have been reading this blog for a while, you may have noticed I have a shop where I sell some patterns, kits and fabric. The shop is an extension of the types of sewing I love to do, but don't have the time to get around to doing all those beautiful projects. When I send the pattern out I often wonder what will become of it. Will it be made as a present for a new baby? Or maybe, will be hung with pride in the family room? These show & tell posts are dedicated to my customers who have made a special project, their photos and experiences with it. Do you have something you would like to share? Please email me at twolittleaussiebirds [at] gmail [dot] com.
